Describe me in one word... just one single word. Positive or negative.
- Leave your word in a comment before looking at what words others have used.
- Then copy and paste the meme to your journal to find out how people will describe you when limited to one word. |

| Make-a-Wish room |
[Feb. 17th, 2009|11:43 am] |
I got to design and build a child's room as their 'wish' for "Make-A-Wish Foundation"!
Mad props to Kimberlina, Terry, Bractune, and Rebekka for sacrificing part of their weekend to help execute the design...seriously would NEVER have finished without the help!

| All American Rejects |
[Feb. 12th, 2009|08:10 pm] |
...are this band of 4 early 30s dudes that write poppy alt-rock. They have had some singles, sold about 4 million albums and headline theatre-sized venues across the US. Not too shabby musically, or career-wise, but also not the most amazing or original band you'll ever come across.
However...
They have a new album called "When the World Comes Down".
Not to put too fine a point on it, but it is the finest record to come out in as lonh as I can remember.
That is all. |

| busy effin' week |
[Feb. 8th, 2009|09:27 am] |
One of my design jobs needed a painter. I thought "I've only gotten 2 hrs of consultation work from this job, maybe I should just be the paint contactor?"
So I was.
I'm a good painter (when it isn't my house), definitely on par with pro-contract painters (not those faux finisih guys that kick royal ass). I can paint straight lines (freehand), cut in without hitting walls or ceilings, get good coverage, and not have any brush or roller marks.
I quoted them less than an actual painter, because my contractors license doesn't cover this stuff, and I really could use the work.
I did 2 hrs of consulting and 33 hours of painting (+ Kimberly helped me for almost 20 hours). This was from Thursday night to Saturday night. I worked around-the-clock, toook naps at the job site.
I SERIOUSLY underbid this job.
I missed all of Duncan's birthday madness. I missed writing 4 songs for FAWM. I missed recording "Give Up". I missed a songwriting workshop. I also missed another job opportunity.
I may be a good designer (or even great sometimes), but I am a TERRIBLE businessman. (BTW, the clients couldn't have been nicer people, this in NO way reflects on them....just on MY innability to properly asses how much labor I would have to contribute for the time and monetary allowance).
Technically, I came out ahead because all this cost me was time, but I'm so freakin' tired I'm ready to drop. |

| Update |
[Jan. 9th, 2009|10:47 am] |
Duncan is the MAN. He fixed my amp...it actually sounds better than when I first got it!
Kim started her new job. On the plus side, it is feasible that she may do quite well at this - to the point that I could focus my entire day's work activities on writing and recording. Even if she just does okay, so much of the financial burden will be off my shoulders...I won't have the kind of extra money I had in the mid 2000's, but all I really wanted money for was a cusion so I could spend more time writing songs. I've never quite lived up to the potential of when TKT had stuff being placed on TV and with publishers, so the thought that I could REALLY focus excites me.
The design business is going well. The clients I have are REALLY into what I'm doing for them - so much so, that it emulates the feeling I get when I play a good show - same kind of artistic satisfaction. The lame part is that I do not know how to market my business, so I have far fewer clients than I could handle (even if I were writing full-time, I could still handle a larger client base than I have now).
NYE party was pretty awesome.
(There is supposed to be an LJ cut here titled 'TKT Stuff'. I don't think it is working.)

| Putting it out there once again... |
[Jan. 3rd, 2009|06:14 pm] |
Room for rent!
We are in a pretty nice area in Fair Oaks.
So, you'd have a regular-sized bedroom, full access to kitchen, and common areas. You'd also have your own bathroom (except that when guests are here, it would have to be accessible to them). We have a washer/dryer that you can use and you get free cable to an existing wall-mounted TV in your room, as well as free wireless internet.
We charge $500 a month, which not only includes rent and the free goodies mentioned above, but also covers all utilities. We do not charge a cleaning deposit or 1st/last months rent.
We lead a very boring and quiet life, actually...this would be ideal for someone between permanent residences, a student, a workaholic etc...
It would help if you don't think that the band "The Kimberly Trip" sucks...because we do much of our business here. Also, we have indoor cats, so if you are allergic, or hate cats, that would probably kill this for you...also, I don't really see a way you could bring a cat or dog with you. A bird or fish would be fine.
e-mail jeffry@thekimberlytrip.com if interested.
Thank you! |

| Christmas card disaster |
[Dec. 24th, 2008|11:09 am] |
So...if I have your address for any reason, OR if you have ever sent Kim or I a Christmas card in the past, you are on my Christmas card list.
This list is somewhere in with our Christmas stuff (wrapping paper, decorations, etc).
I have no access to those boxes this year.
Not only are they behind a bunch of my Grandma's stuff from when we cleaned out her house, but since Kim and I didn't decorate this year (trying to go economy this year - no gift exchange), I didn't send out cards.
Thinking of all of you. Hoping you have a great Holiday. Sorry about the lack of a tangible.

| Sick again |
[Dec. 11th, 2008|01:30 pm] |
I guess since I told Dr Caos I never get sick, I was basically begging the universe to eff me.
Fever of 102 is gone, but I still can't really even function.
Missed lots of work, and lots of fun stuff, too.
Did watch a lot of movies on Pay-per-view.
Finally saw "Iron Man"
RAD!
Saw "Adaptation" again. Hadn't seen it since it came out, it was free so thought "why not?". Freakin' awesome in everyway possible.
Saw "Fred Clause". Kind of a cheap rip-off of "Elf", although I did actually like it...of course Vince Vaughn has a certain edge to his performances that make me like virtually everything he is in. The REAL downside to this movie was that I had maybe taken a combinations of medications I shouldn't have at the height of my fever, so I got some severe dimentia, and completely lost it.
And finally-
"Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanama Bay".
Neal Patrick Harris - "You know what the PH stands for?" Harold "Doesn't it stand for 'Patrick Harris'?" NPH "It stands for poontang-handler, 'cause that's all I do. There is nothing I love more than a bunch of pussy. My balls get wet just talkin' about it." |

| New Studio |
[Dec. 4th, 2008|08:28 pm] |
I had this idea that I wanted to slightly modify our recording/rehearsal space.
It was the first room I re-did in our house, so after a few years it seemed an update was a bit over-due.
I have kept the black walls and ceiling, but have re-done the flooring in a bleached laminate with a sound-absorbtion padding (on top of vinyl and subfloor). On top of that I put a very large, white shag area rug.
I ripped out all the bench seating, and repurposed them into hidden storage under the speakers (which are now all behind a second set of angled black curtains).
I took all artwork and stuff off the walls. 7 hooks are mounted on 2 walls to hold guitars close to the ceiling. I also have black-on-black mats in specific areas to cut high-end echo.
I did put an art project INSIDE the glass that separates the vocal booth from the studio floor. I won;t spoil the surprise, but it is pretty funny.
I added one floor cabinet in white. It is moveable and can support two adults if they wish to sit on it. A faux, white leather cushion is on the way. The cabinet has a frosted-glass door, and it lit from the inside. Groovy as Hell...especially paired with silver legs and the shag carpet.
The contol center has been re-built to better house all the extra rack-gear, and I was able to lower the monitor for better visual aids while mixing. I also gave the drum module its own shelf, and added in some pretty expensive (compared to the rest of the budget) cathode lighting to illuminate the mixing board and rack gear. I've painted the entire desk and shelving area black, so the whole thing basically disappears into the wall.
I carpeted the drum riser in black, and a really cool, lighted border in white is on its way.
I added a long white counter to one side to serve as a place to put drinks and stuff for when we have small shows, or during long practices. This will also accomodate the keyboard and Sierra's laptop.
The coolest thing is that now there is NOTHING on the actual studio floor. No speakers, no amps, no drums, not even a single cable.
I absolutely cannot wait to start recording in this new space! |

| Thanksgiving... |
[Nov. 28th, 2008|05:41 pm] |
|
is a day I usually don't 'celebrate'.
Typically I just stay home alone, cook for myself, and reflect on how much things have changed since this fateful day in 1997.
This year I worked on a friend's house while they were out of town, then went home for a quiet dinner with Kimberlina.
The ability to beautify someone else's space, and spend time with my wife with out any of the normal bullshit of my work-life made this the best Thanksgiving I can ever remember. I hope that means the curse has been lifted... Looking forward to the show tonight. It will be different than anything we've ever done, so I hope some people actually show up! |

| We've got bush... |
[Nov. 10th, 2008|08:36 am] |
Last night was monumental for 2 reasons-
The big one is that my wife and I have FINALLY found common ground on what we can both agree on calling the vag.
I love euphamistic terms for the vag, but so many of the reasonably tame ones are over used (pussy, beaver), the exotic ones are non-descriptive (kiwi), the really dirty ones work better as swear words than as a description (C***T, TW**), and some just sound disgusting (wisker biscuit, bearded clam).
By default we've just gone with Kiwi (in public) and Pussy (in private).
Thanks to Gregory House, the search is now over, and the winner is "Squish Mitten".
-Jeffry
Oh...the other thing is that you can never completely escape your past. |

| Last Night's Show |
[Oct. 19th, 2008|10:05 am] |
I'm feeling a bit strange about last night.
The bad-
Too many times I simply forgot how to play. This doesn't really happen to me.
Lots of people that bought tix ahead of time didn't show up.
We had a decrease in door sales by almost 60%.
Steve Martin says that when you start to see empty seats, it's over.
A certain team member didn't seem happy to be there.
The Cool-
The people that came seemed to have a good time.
The new songs felt like they really kicked.
The stage show was pretty fantastic. I don't know anyone else at this level doing anything quite like it. Much of the credit goes to our lighting coordinator, our stage manager, and all the folks that have helped us figure this non-musical stuff out.
The Question-
I need to find out if we've become a tired thing to see...or if we picked a bad night...or if we need to change venues to something more centralized. Not sure how to get this info.
Conclusion-
Thank you if you came. I hope our goal to take your mind off the world-troubles was successful. |

| Roomate(s) wanted |
[Oct. 7th, 2008|08:46 am] |
Our last roomate will be leaving our domicile in mid-October...so we now have a room available for rent...actually, we have decided that in this tough ecomomic climate, that if we have 2 interested parties, that we'd be willing to rent out our 3rd bedroom,as well.
Also, we have indoor cats, so if you are allergic, or hate cats, that would probably kill this for you.
If 2 people are interested in the 2 rooms, we'll lower each one to $400, because the bathroom would become shared-space.

| I'm official...and I'm freaking out! |
[Oct. 3rd, 2008|05:58 pm] |
So my work-life of the last 11 years is winding down, coming to an end. No more day-job.
This is good and bad.
Bad because no income = bad times for Jeffry and family.
Good because I have just launched my own business. Kind of. I've been doing my own design work for the last 4 years for various levels of clients...but this is the first time that it will be my only source of income (all of the TKT money goes back into TKT).
I expect to have my website up and running by mid-next week. Portfolio. Testimonials. Stuff you'd expect, laid out real professional like.
The addy will be www.IGofR.com
It stands for 'Interiors Group of Roseville'.
I've always had just the right amount of clients around my schedule. Now I'd like to really be busy as I go into this full-steam-ahead...SO;
If you need any immediate design consultation, I can not only assist and make your wildest fantasies of design come true, but I will give you a screamin' deal.
Our usual prices are $85hr. My friend price has always been $65hr. Book us during this transitional phase and you get us for $45hr. Refer a friend or family member and they'll get the same deal + I'll give you a free hour of design for yourself.
my e-mail is jeffry@IGofR.com (it is already working!)
And here is a recent testimonial -
"We loved working with Jeffry! He did a wonderful job of working within our preferred style, yet taking us to a place within that style that we couldn’t have taken ourselves. He was respectful of our budget, time constraints, and the fact that we took FOREVER to make some decisions! Because of Jeffry, walking into our home is always relaxing for us – not to mention that it’s fun to get so many compliments! We highly recommend Jeffry to all of our friends. | UPdate and a question for computer saavy peeps... |
[Sep. 28th, 2008|08:55 am] |
Last night's acoustic show was surprisingly cool!
I expected David Houston to rule, and he did...but I really thought we would tank, but we didn't.
We did not know we were playing this show until Thursday night. I had agreed to play @ Luna's with David Houston, but I somehow thought it was for November. Imagine my surprise when I opened a gig-announcement from David and saw us listed!
Anyway, without preparation or practice, Kim and I staggered through a 9 song set; Several of our 'hits' (Supergloo, Trouble Again, Shy Girl from Orange County, Suck Knob, Not Quite Right in the Head), a couple of covers (The Promise, I Will Follow You into the Dark), and even two songs from the upcoming album that we've never played live before (Home, Promise Me / Promise Me).
For the most part we were really in the zone vocally, with only one major confusing moment when I could not remember how to play part of 'Suck Knob' - probably because it is a part where I don't play in the live set, and haven't really known what happens in that part of the song since I wrote it in November of 2003.
We sold a lot of tickets for the upcoming 'Heroes Alley' show, which was surprising considering the intimate turnout last night.
On another note-
HELP. For some reason my computer will not let me access my e-mail. No matter what link I use, what addy I type in, it can't find the site. I can access from any other system, but not from home. Every other regular site I visit is no problem. Anyone know how to fix this? |
